#JanPlan: Getting It Done

On New Year's Day, someone retweeted something into my stream that caught my eye. Something called a JanPlan. What the heck is a JanPlan, I wondered? I clicked through to this post from Christa Desir to find out. The basic idea is to take some project you've been wanting to finish, and finish it!

I liked the idea of setting some kind of goal for myself for this month, and there are a lot of things I want to get going, so I decided to jump on board.

I've already had this feeling that 2013 is going to be my year. I don't know in what way, exactly, but I see success in my future. With any luck (and a lot of hard work) this will be the year I quit retail and make my living doing something writing-related that I enjoy. Therefore, my JanPlan will help me tidy up a few things that need to be done to start me on that path. This month I plan to:
  • Launch my transcription website and start seeking out clients
  • Follow up on some freelance opportunities I've come across
  • Continue work on one of my fiction manuscripts that I had set aside. A stretch goal would be to finish the draft of that manuscript, but that would be a pretty big stretch. :-)
Do you have something you want to finish this month? Join us on Twitter and share your #JanPlan efforts.

  1. I've taken on a couple of projects for 2013. Ten, I believe. Seems like a lot, but not all of them are big. They include the Happiness Jar (also known as the Gratitude Jar), the One Line a Day Journal, the Goodreads reading challenge, and taking at least one photo each day.

One of the bigger projects is decorating and furnishing my new home. I haven't moved yet, but I will some time this year and I'm already buying second hand items and thinking of ways to decorate. So I can relate to the JanPlan, even though I haven't physically started!

  2. Good luck on getting all of your projects done this year! I have a lot of things I want to get done this year, so I figured the JanPlan was a great way to jump start that. Maybe I'll do a FebPlan, and a MarPlan... lol.

  3. The college I went to (Colby) in Maine had a Jan Plan. LOL It was a time of concentrated study, but whole lot of fun (because living in Maine during January needs to be funned-up). I like the idea of finishing something this month, but the thing I have unfinished is finding an agent. Which I don't really have too much control over (other than the obvious--polish the manuscript, query, synopsis, etc.)

I'll just try my darndest and we'll see what happens! :) Thanks for the thoughtful post!

  4. I don't believe I've ever visited your blog before. I love the colors.

I wish I could say I have a grand plan for this year, but I kind of float along like a dandelion seed and take what happens.
